What begins in silence can grow into something powerful.
A story. A connection. A shared mission across continents.
And sometimes, it finds a home in a community that truly listens.

I’m honored to introduce myself as a co-founder of the Cochlear Implant Wellness Collective, a gentle and supportive space created to reflect the deeper emotional and human journey of cochlear implant users.

I was born with profound hearing loss and received a cochlear implant at the age of five. But sound was just the beginning.

The real journey has been about learning to communicate, to express myself, and to carry emotional strength in a world that often doesn’t understand hearing differences.

I’ve danced on stage, written from the quietest parts of myself, and travelled alone to places where I didn’t even know the local language. I’ve done all this while wearing a device on my ear that many people still don’t understand.
That’s why this collective means so much to me.

 It’s not just about hearing.
 It’s about being heard.
 It’s about the silent struggles, the creative strength, and the power of shared stories.

I’m deeply grateful to Dr. Vie, the visionary founder of this collective.
Decades ago, as a young girl in Sub-Saharan Africa, she was drawn to a book on deafness in a flea market. That quiet moment stayed with her and eventually shaped her path into hearing science and global humanitarian work.

Years later, she came across a blog I had written. Something in it resonated.
That small connection grew into something meaningful.
Now, to walk beside her as a co-founder in this space she envisioned is a true honor.

 I Act Like I Hear You: The Hidden Toll of Trying Sometimes, I nod when I didn’t really understand. I laugh when others laugh, even if I didn’t catch the joke. I rehearse responses in my head because I’m not sure if I really heard you right. I act like I’m hearing more than I am. This isn’t lying. It’s survival .  When Listening Drains Me: The Side of Deafness No One Sees People often assume listening is easy. That if you have ears or even a cochlear implant you can just hear, respond, and move on. But for me, listening is work. It takes energy, focus, and emotional strength especially in noisy or social situations. In group conversations , it’s the hardest. If I miss a word, I turn to someone next to me for help. But even that feels risky. They may think I’m disturbing them, interrupting, or not paying attention. But the truth is I’m trying harder than anyone realizes. And when I can’t keep up, it hits me like a storm. A flood of frustration, helplessness, sadness… sometimes all at once. My brain feels like it’s on overload , and I lose control over how I feel. The world becomes too loud outside , and too heavy inside. What I’ve come to realize is this isn’t just personal.
