Comparison is a Silent Killer

Comparison is a Silent Killer

We are all human.
We were all born on the same Earth.
But after that moment of birth, everything about us becomes different: our abilities, our struggles, our IQ, our health, our background, our skin, our language, our lifestyle, our dreams.

And yet, people still compare.

They look at one person’s success and use it as a measuring stick for another.
They ignore the invisible battles, the sleepless nights, the disabilities, the trauma, the daily fight just to stand where you are.

When you compare a disabled person with a non-disabled person,
you are not motivating them.
You are wounding them.
You are telling them, “Your fight doesn’t matter. Your challenges don’t count. You are not enough.”

And those words cut deeper than you think.
Some people stop believing in themselves.
Some lose the will to keep going.
Some… don’t survive.

I know this because I have lived it.
I have been compared to relatives, friends, and strangers my whole life.
“Look, she speaks perfectly, why can’t you?”
“They have big jobs, why don’t you?”
“They are independent, what’s your excuse?”

What they do not see is the battles I fight silently every single day.
The discrimination.
The doors that close before I can even knock.
The invisible weight I carry while others run freely.

Comparison is not love.
Comparison is not care.
Comparison is cruelty dressed as advice.

If you truly care for someone, see their journey, not someone else’s.
Appreciate their progress, not their difference from others.
And most importantly, stop using other people’s lives as a weapon.

Because sometimes, your words are heavier than you can imagine.
And some hearts can only carry so much.

So next time you are tempted to compare, remember this:
Your words can either build a bridge or push someone off the edge.
Choose wisely.

To everyone who has been crushed by comparison:

You are not less.
You are not behind.
You are not a failure.

Your journey is yours alone, and it cannot be measured by someone else’s timeline.

You are climbing mountains they do not even see.
You are fighting battles they cannot even imagine.
And every single day you keep going is proof of your strength.

One day, those who compared you will realise:
You were never in their race.
You were on your own path,
and you were winning it all along.
